The Telegraph – Companies considering swapping passwords for biometrics

Companies are considering using sensitive biometric data to replace passwords, which includes fingerprints, facial recognition, the way you type or the way you hold your phone.

Silkie Carlo, Director of Big Brother Watch, says that use of biometrics “in the workplace are associated with employer monitoring and a loss of privacy. Data regulation gives us all the right to choose whether to provide our biometric data or not, when the purpose is convenience. We ought to be very cautious of normalising the exchange of such sensitive ‘body data’ about ourselves and trusting it in other people’s hands. I believe healthy and free societies will use biometric security as the exception rather than the rule.”
