After previously denying sharing images with managers of the King’s Cross development, last month the Met Police issued an admission that it had in fact shared seven images with private developers.
The police have now also admitted that they have no record of whether any matches were made via the development’s surveillance system, nor whether this led to any police action.
Big Brother Watch Director Silkie Carlo commented:
“The fact that police initially denied involvement and have few records about it shows how out of control facial recognition use is in this country.”
Privacy groups have raised concerns about the lack of public awareness of the use of facial recognition technology in a popular open-air site.
