Pubs in England and Wales will now allow customers to prove their age using digital ID under new rules introduced by the government. Commenting on the use of digital ID in pubs and shops Jasleen Chaggar, Big Brother Watch’s senior legal and policy officer said:
“Many people have legitimate reasons for relying on physical ID, whether out of choice, privacy and security concerns, or because they lack the digital skills or means to use digital ID.”
“The Government should expressly prohibit businesses from requiring digital IDs for age checks without offering reasonable alternatives.”
