BBC – Facial recognition surveillance “out of control”

Big Brother Watch Team / December 4, 2025

The Home Office has launched a 10-week public consultation on facial recognition, outlining how and when police forces across the country can use the technology.

Silkie Carlo, director of civil liberties campaign group Big Brother Watch, said the consultation was overdue and has called for a pause in using facial recognition technology for its duration.

She stated “facial recognition surveillance is out of control” and that the country is “hurtling towards an authoritarian surveillance state”.
