The London Policing Ethics Panel has released a review of the Metropolitan Police’s use of live facial recognition surveillance.
The review concludes with a number of recommendations, including the need for police surveillance to be strictly necessary and proportionate, and for live facial recognition not to be used at the expense of valued liberties.
Big Brother Watch has repeated warnings that live facial recognition used for public surveillance is inherently disproportionate and an affront to British liberties.
If the Metropolitan Police does continue to use live facial recognition, Big Brother Watch will seek to proceed with a crowdfunded legal challenge.
