New proposals to introduce speed-limiting technology in new cars have raised concerns about ‘Big Brother’ style tracking and restrictions. Proposals from the European Commission to stop drivers going over the speed limit involve installing a ‘black box’ in cars to record speed, as well as driving and location data.
“Big Brother Watch said the compulsory introduction of this system would be ‘against British principles of liberty and free choice’, and warned that the extensive data collected ‘can and will be misused’.”
